Our Transformations

We are proud of the work we’ve done for our clients. They say seeing is believing, so here’s some of what we can do.

We Cover All Of Scotland

Based in Glasgow with projects and clients all over Scotland, our team of experts are ready to help you.

A patchy lawn with bare soil showing through, moss creeping in from the edges, and grass that looks tired no matter how often you mow it.

Sounds like your garden?

Sometimes, no amount of seeding or lawn feed is going to fix a patchy grass problem. The quickest route to the lawn you dream about is to strip it back completely, prepare the ground properly, and lay fresh turf.

That’s where GGM Landscaping comes in.

We provide professional turfing services across Glasgow and throughout Scotland, covering everything from a small front garden to a large estate lawn.

Why Professional Turfing Makes the Difference

Turf itself seems straightforward. It arrives in rolls, you lay it on the ground, and you water it.

But where most DIY turfing jobs fall apart is the soil underneath.

If the ground is compacted, poorly drained, or full of old roots and rubble, even the best quality turf won’t establish properly. The roots can’t push down, water pools on the surface, and within a few weeks, you’ve got soggy patches and lifting edges.

As experienced Glasgow landscapers, we start with the soil itself, not the grass.

We strip back the old surface, clear debris, rotovate the ground to break up compaction, and level everything so the finished surface drains correctly.

If the existing topsoil is poor (and in Glasgow’s clay-heavy ground, it often is), we bring in fresh topsoil and work it in before any turf goes down.

That preparation is the bit most people skip, and it’s the bit that determines whether your lawn lasts one season or ten years.

Getting the Timing Right

Turf should be laid within 24 hours of delivery.

Once it’s rolled up, it deteriorates quickly, especially in warm weather and the summer seasons.

GGM Landscaping’s experienced team sources quality turf from Scottish growers. This means it’s already acclimatised to the local conditions and suited to Scotland’s soil and climate.

We coordinate delivery so everything goes down fresh on the same day, giving it the best possible chance of rooting in quickly.

The result is a finished lawn that looks established from day one, not a bare patch of soil with a hosepipe and a hope.

Our Glasgow Lawn Turfing Services

GGM Landscaping handles every part of the project from start to finish.

There’s no need to source your own turf, arrange delivery, or hire equipment for ground preparation. We take care of it all on your behalf for an easy process.

Ground preparation

This is where the real work happens.

We clear the existing surface (whether that’s old grass, weeds, or bare earth) and rotovate to a depth of around 100 to 150mm.

Stones, roots, and debris get removed.

We then grade and level the ground, filling any low spots and firming the soil by treading it evenly.

If drainage is an issue, we’ll address that before the turf goes down. We always want to make sure water moves away from the surface freely, because no matter how good the turf is, it won’t thrive in waterlogged ground.

The finished surface should be level, lightly firm, and raked to a fine tilth, ready to lay turf onto.

Quality turf supply and selection

We source high quality turf from trusted Scottish turf growers who have built a solid reputation for producing lawn turf that performs well in Scotland’s climate.

For most residential gardens, we recommend a hard-wearing garden lawn turf that handles regular foot traffic, children playing, and the occasional barbecue without thinning out.

If your garden has areas of heavy shade under trees or beside fences, we can supply shade-tolerant varieties that grow better in those spots.

For larger projects or bulk orders covering commercial grounds, we can coordinate deliveries throughout the UK to match phased laying schedules.

Laying and finishing

Turf goes down in a staggered brick pattern. Each roll butted tightly against the next so there are no gaps.

Edges get trimmed to fit paths, borders, and flower beds neatly.

Once it’s all laid, we roll the whole lawn to press the turf firmly onto the soil and remove air pockets. The new roots establish quickly and make contact straight away.

Aftercare advice

We don’t just lay the groundwork and leave you in the dark.

Before we leave, we’ll walk you through everything you need to do over the first few weeks.

New turf needs regular watering (daily in warm weather, every couple of days otherwise) until the roots hold firm.

We’ll tell you when it’s safe to mow for the first time, how short to cut it, and when you can start using the lawn normally again.

Lawn Turf vs Seeding: Which Is Right for Your Garden?

This is a big debate in landscaping. The answer is that it really depends on your level of patience, your budget, and your timeline.

Luckily, GGM Landscaping can do both! So whatever you decide is right for your garden, we will be able to help.

Seeding

A bag of grass seed is less expensive than turf rolls. For large areas, the pricing difference adds up.

But seeding comes with trade-offs that most homeowners and gardeners don’t realise until they’re months into a patchy, weedy result.

Grass seed takes anywhere from six to twelve months to fully establish, depending on the weather and how well you keep the birds off it.

During that time, the lawn can’t handle any foot traffic at all.

One dry spell or heavy downpour can wash seeds away and leave your grassy area needing some more attention.

Turfing

Turf gives you a finished lawn in practically a single day.

Of course, you’ll need to stay off it for two to three weeks while the roots establish, but after that, you’ve got a usable garden.

For most people in Glasgow, especially families with children or dogs, that’s the practical choice.

We can also combine turfing with other landscaping work like patios, paths, and borders. The whole garden comes together in one, single project.

When Is the Best Time to Lay Turf in Glasgow?

You can lay turf at almost any time of year, but some seasons give better results.

In Scotland, the ideal windows are autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May). That said, if you’re outside of these months, our team will be happy to advise on the best approach for your timing.

The soil is warm enough for roots to establish, rainfall tends to keep the ground moist, and you’re not fighting extreme heat or frost.

Summer laying is possible, but it means more watering and a little extra care.

Glasgow’s summers aren’t extreme, but even a few dry weeks can stress new turf if you’re not keeping on top of irrigation.

Winter is trickier because the ground can be waterlogged or frozen. The grass growth slows right down, so rooting takes much longer.

But if you need a new lawn in January for the upcoming spring, we can make it work.

We’ll always be honest about what to expect and adjust our approach to suit the conditions.

Turfing Glasgow: Your Questions Answered

How long does it take to lay a new lawn?

Most residential gardens can be prepared and turfed in a single day. Larger gardens or those needing significant ground preparation might take two days. We’ll give you a clear timeline when we quote.

Can I lay turf over old grass?

We wouldn’t recommend it. Laying new turf over old grass creates an uneven surface, traps moisture, and prevents proper root establishment. We always strip the old surface back to bare soil and prepare properly. It takes a bit longer, but the lawn lasts years longer as a result.

How long before I can walk on my new lawn?

Stay off new turf for at least two to three weeks while the roots establish. In spring and summer, rooting happens faster. In colder months, it can take six to eight weeks for full establishment. We will always advise you on the timeline after inspecting your soil.

Do you supply the turf or do I need to buy it?

We supply everything. We source quality grass turf from respected Scottish growers and arrange next day delivery to coincide with the laying date, so it goes down at its best. You don’t need to organise anything separately.

What if my garden has poor drainage?

Drainage is one of the most common issues we deal with in Glasgow, particularly in areas with heavy clay soil. We can improve drainage as part of the ground preparation by incorporating sand or grit into the topsoil, adjusting levels to encourage water runoff, or installing land drains where needed. We’ll spot drainage problems during the site visit and include the solution in your quote.
